Lloyds Bank, Corn Street, Bristol

The ridiculous Lloyd’s Bank building opposite the Exchange. It has Doric columns on the bottom with Ionic on the top and detailed motifs inspired by St Mark’s Library in Venice. The difference in the stone colour here is because when this section was added in 1900 there was so much grime on the building it was impossible to tell the difference between the white stone and the yellow stone. There are sculptural elements all across the front with arms for the major cities where the bank operated.
Just … what a bunch of silly Victorians they were.
