Stanley Spencer, Self Portrait, 1939 I’ve had the pleasure of seeing quite a few of Spencer’s paintings (including this one at the Fitzwilliam in Cambridge) and he’s cemented himself in my mind as an excellent artist. An early modernist with a penchant for depicting Biblical scenes and painting some wonderful self-portraits.
